Travel and Event Mondays: Upcoming Running Events In The United States

Last week, I talked about several running events around the world. In a perfect world, where money, would never be an issue, I would participate in all of the races as long as my energy and body could withstand it all. Unfortunately, traveling does take money. Sooooo, this week I am going to focus on several running events right here in the United States. Here are a few events that I found:

- Bad Azz Back 2 Back at Western Chehalis Trail (Lacey, WA)
  September 7, 2015
** The historic Western Chehalis Trail runs north-south through the heart of Thurston County and links up with the Yelm-Tenino Trail. It is a flat course with slight inclines and passes through a variety of ecosystems and environments in both the urban and rural areas of the County. The trail offers spectacular views and a tranquil and refreshing walk/run experience.

- Patriots' Run & Ultra Run, 5K (Olathe, KS)
  September 11, 2015
** As we commemorate 9/11, we thank and honor those who serve our country.  There is no other event like this in world!  During the day there are 7 races going on at the same time in the same location.  Pick your race or sign up your team.

The new location at MidAmerica Nazarene University is going to be great.  We have a nice route planned out that can handle a large crowd.

- Abebe Bikila Day International Peace Marathon & Half Marathon (Washington, DC)
  September 12, 2015
** Planned as a memorial race in honor of the 184 people who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Pentagon as well as the thousands more who perished in New York and Pennsylvania, this race celebrates the memory of Ethiopan runner Abebe Bikila, who became the first black African to win an Olympic medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics.

- Big Cottonwood Marathon & Half (Salt Lake City, UT)
  September 12, 2015
** This incredibly fast and remarkably beautiful road race takes runners from the forests and canyons of the Wasatch Mountains to the foothills of Salt Lake City. Featuring a speedy downhill slope and spectacular scenery, this race will be sure to help you set your PR and finally hit that Boston Qualifying time. REVEL in speed. REVEL in beauty. REVEL in Big Cottonwood!

- Hawk Hundred Marathon & 100 Mile, 50 Mile (Lawrence, KS)
  September 12, 2015
** The Fifth Annual Hawk Hundred is a 100-mile, 50-mile and Marathon Trail race put on by the Lawrence Trail Hawks. This year’s race takes place on September 12th and 13th in Lawrence, Kansas. The course covers four loops through the rolling hills of Clinton State Park.

- Night Sweats September Trail Marathon & 15K (San Francisco, CA)
  September 12, 2015
** Imagine looking across a valley and seeing runners' flashlights lit up like stars along the trail. Come and join the exciting adventures and enjoy the sights and sounds that can only be found at this national treasure.

This Night Marathon and 15 Km begins at Rodeo Beach. You will see from several vantage points on the trail the beauty of the lights of San Francisco, Tiburon and the Bay Bridge. We use the entire expanse of Marin Headlands, Golden Gate National Recreation Area. You’ll travel well-groomed trails to Rodeo Beach, Muir Beach, while hearing the roar of the ocean and enjoy vistas of the Pacific Coastline.

The trails are marked with glow sticks and reflective ribbon to keep you safely on course. We employ the same safety procedures employed for our 100-mile nighttime events. We recommend that the runners use headlamps and/or hand flashlights to light up the trail.

- The Chocolate Rush (Olathe, KS)
  February 2016
** We hold the Chocolate Rush the first weekend in February at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS. Run a 5K or half marathon and enjoy a chocolate buffet at the finish. Participants receive shirts, medals, a chocolate buffet and in 2015, a mug sponsored by Garmin.
